Every professional resume writer has a list of all-time favorite words. Generally these words spell ‘success’ and when used correctly, not only capture the reader but also shares a story. Recently speaking with a client, I was asked why I selected specific words, and my answer was simply, because I want your character to be known.
Words like ‘dynamic’ allow people to think of people who characteristically are self-motivated, ready for action, and full of life. ‘Customer-focused’ may lead people to think of someone who is considerate, thoughtful, and experienced with front-end business leadership rather than non-customer, facing like IT administration.
Every word resonates differently and each word needs to be strategically used, not only to describe the job seeker but also to appeal to the company the job seeker is applying to.
